The Skincare Edit - The Budget Friendly Version

The idea for this post struck me today when I was at work. One of the ladies and I were speaking about the summer sales and items we could purchase now to use as gifts for birthdays/Christmas.

It came to me that with all the hype about the Emma Hardie Cleansing balm, the P50 exfoliating toner and the PIXI glow tonic. Where are the options for those who want to try these products but just do not have the money to buy the cult products.

I recently posted my Skincare edit (which is subject to change so there will be updates soon), so I am writing this the Budget friendly version of my skincare edit. This would have been my skincare edit a year ago when I was a student, strapped for pennies.

Makeup Remover - L'OrĂ©al Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution

Cleansing Oil  - L'oreal Cleansing oil (please remember this does have in mineral oil)

Cleanser morning - Neutrogena 2 in 1 cleanser & Mask

Cleanser evening - Botanics 97% Organic Hot Cloth cleansing Balm

Exfoliating toner - La Roche-Posay Effaclar Clarifying Lotion

Hydrating toner - Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz

Serum - Avene Soothing Hydrating serum

Sunscreen - Bioderma Photoderm Spot Cream SPF50+ 30ml
or Avene very high protection mineral suncreen spf50+ for very intolerant skin

My current skincare edit is £125 in total. The budget version above total costs equal £85, at the moment a lot of these products are on reduced price offers, so the total would be even less. I recommend when purchasing skincare you buy one item at a time. eg when your cleanser finishes, then purchase a new one,  not before. Do the same in turn with each skincare item. Unless your skin is in a bad way, I would never suggest purchasing an entirely new skincare regime at once.  I love a bargain and the frugal person in me would never let that happen. I will stick to purchasing one at a time as items finish.  I hope that you guys find this post useful.

Comment below and let me know if you have used any of the products above in the past.
Happy Wednesday,
my lovelies.

Review - Palmers Damask Rose and Musk shower gel

Palmers Savonniers since 1898 that is a longgggggggggggg time to be making soap.
Recently with little coercion from my roomate I went halves with her and purchased the REN Morrocan Rose Otto body wash (we got 2 for £17). On a browse through my local supermarket I came across the Palmers Damask Rose and Musk shower gel and realised that both products smelled very very similar. I picked one of these up since it was on offer (99p) to compare and contrast with my Rose Otto body wash, for several reasons the main one being that even though the REN Morrocan Rose Otto smells divine £17 a month for a shower gel is excessive in my opinion.

What they say:
This shower gel is infused with extract of natural Damask Rose, whose soft blossoms have been used in perfumery for centuries. It's flowery, aromatic blend with musky notes leaves your skin pleasantly fragranced.

What I say:
The Palmers Damask Rose and Musk shower gel has a great smell, which is similar but not totally comparable to the REN Morrocan Rose Otto body wash. It is not overpowering nor does not linger long after use. The product lathers quite well and did not dry out my skin. Palmers products are not overly expensive and the price for this shower gel @ £2 full price is great.

My only query is in the formulation I do believe that the handwash AND the shower gel are made from the same ingredients in the same order. Which is a bit grrr, however as a product it does deliver what it says that it would do. There is a rumour around the blogshpere that there is a body lotion as well to complement this range of products but I have not seen it.

Would I recommend? - Yes
Would I purchase full priced? - mmm have to think about that sine Palmolive products are always on offer
would I repurchase? - Yes

Review - Garnier Soft Essentials vitamin enriched cleansing wipes (Rose Extract and Vitamin E)

I believe that face wipes serve a purpose in the world of fashion/makeup/beauty. They are useful for refreshing the skin, travelling and removing makeup (how well do they do this job is a topic we can debate another day). i alaywas reccomend to everyone that at the end of the day if you are not wearing makeup to give your face a once over with a face wipes, just to get ride of the grime/germs/bacteria of the day.

What they say:
Remove makeup and hydrate, dermatologically tested.

Our Garnier skin Naturals Philosophy
We use whenever possible active natural ingredients when have been carefully extracted to preserve thier quality and purity.

What I say - Skin Type - Oily, Cleansing Routine -Twice daily
These wipes were lovely. They had enough moisture (juice) in them to last longer than the first wipe which is something Garnier face wipes have in common. the wipes removed my makeup quite well. I used 2 wipes that is just my personal preference. these wipes were very soft on the skin, pleasantly fragranced and not abrasive. They did not leave my skin feeling stripped or dry at any time.

These wipes retail for £3.20 each and 25 come in a packet (yes I know they are getting pricey.)

Would I repurchase? - Yes if they were on sale (50% off or more)
Would I purchase at full price -  Maybe
Would I recommend- hellllllllllll yeah, for the process of makeup removal only, these are not your skin care system.

New Stuff - Doo Gro, L'Occitane, L'Oreal, Palmolive

Yea I know usually I would say this is a haul or something of the like, but everybody is hauling something or another these days. So I thought New Stuff, plus I like to plan my hauls. I save up my money make a list of things that I need to purchase, search different websites and blogs for deals that are going on and then buy I buy products. These are just products I have accrued over the last week.

£2.43 this was on half price offer and I  am getting bored of my Infisium 23 (been using it religiously for over a year/ 12 months) so I thought I would give this one a try.

£1.01 this was on half priced offer as well, I bought it to suppliment my REN Morrocan Rose Otto body wash (£16  for 200ml that ish is not cheap). It smells exactly the same as the REN for wayyyyyyy less

£5.10 the most expensive purchase this week. I bought his to replace my beloved Aphogee Green tea and Keratin Reconstrustor, after nearly 2 solid years of service it is finished.

£4.80 I picked this up in the L'occitane summer sale. it was 70% off  So I thought I would treat myself. Also I have a few rose scented washes, so a lotion would be a good way to layer the fragrance. Did I mention it was 70% OFF. original price £16 for 100ml

£4.80 same reason as above, I wanted to treat myself and it was 70% off.

what lotions and potions have you treated yourself to lately?

L'occitane the summer sale

The L'occitane summer sale has started, (whoo, hoo). I wrote about L'occitane previously on this blog when I did a review of their Shea butter han cream,. I still have my tube of hand cream and it is still going strong though I must admit I have two backups. So today when I saw the email advertising the sale I decided to treat myself to a few things. My nose and my pocket lead my purchase  I wont lie I bought the two most recessionista friendly products on the website. (I am not afraid to live within my means)

These body creams were originally £16 each (I remember when I used to think Body shop body butters were pricey). However at £4.80 the sale price was not bad at all and they were both limited edition items. Check out the L'occitane sale online or instore if you can, you just might find something you like.

Ultra Rich Body Cream Vineyard Rose
£4.80

Ultra Rich Body Cream Apricot Flower
